Siegfried and Roy Farewell Appearance

Legendary performers Roy Horn and Siegfried Fischbacher more commonly known as Siegfried & Roy said farewell to show business, more than five years after a near-fatal on-stage tiger attack ended the most successful act in Las Vegas history. The performance benefited to the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, a Las Vegas neuroscience research center and hospital scheduled to open later this year.

Horn moved steadily but with some difficulty, remarkable since the man was not expected to survive after the tiger attacked him on stage at The Mirage Hotel-Casino where they performed more than 13 years. Horn spent years in rehabilitation at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. After the attack he suffered from subsequent strokes and underwent an experimental brain surgery procedure.

In their farewell trick, Siegfried & Roy appeared on stage, faces concealed in medieval costume keeping the audience in suspense, with two large, empty glass boxes. Fischbacher was then sealed in one box and both covered up; when Horn uncovered the boxes Fischbacher had moved to the other box and in his place was Montecore, the very same tiger that nearly killed Horn 5 years ago.

The 10-minute performance brought the crowd to its feet and after an lengthy applause, the curtain came down and it was announced: "The spirit of Siegfried and Roy have left the building."

And so ended a legendary era in magic and showmanship, a fitting "miracle" farewell indeed.
